Audience: *still tired with glazed over eyes* Murmurs are heard in the building over the faint animal sounds.

Documentary Video - Treatment and Script

This documentary project was chosen to inform people about adoption and what good it does for families. A lot of times, adoption is looked at as a negative because of how many children are put in foster homes and don’t get along with the families they are placed with. Adoption is also thought of as negative because the parents don’t want their children to jump from one family to another and not feel like they belong to anything, but that is not the truth for every child. Most children are placed in a good home and loved as if they have always belonged to their new family.
We will be interviewing Julie Brems who has fostered children and all of her children are adopted. She will discuss how their children have blessed them and given them something they couldn’t have had on their own.

The questions we will be asking her are:

1)    How many children do you have? How many are adopted?
2)    How many kids have you been a foster parent for?
3)    How long did you wait to find out that you were going to be blessed with your first child?
4)    Did your family grow stronger together after learning about infertility?
5)    Would you foster more children when yours grow up more?
6)    Would you have adopted teenagers or older children if you were given the opportunity?
7)    What was your first reaction when you found out you would be parents for the first time?
8)    How much of a surprise was it when you found out you were chosen to be the adoptive parents for your first child?
9)    What was your reaction whenever you would get a call about fostering another child?
10) Have you ever thought about adopting another child?
11) What are your views on abortion? Why?
12) Do you think you would feel any differently about adoption and abortion if you were able to have your own biological children?
13) Do you think adoption is ignored and seen as something negative?
14) Do you feel that being a foster parent and adopting has changed you in any way? (your views on family and life?)

We believe a documentary video that focuses on adoption is a good way to bring more positive reactions to such a controversial topic.

Documentary Subject

The person I have chosen who would be interesting to interview is my neighbor, Julie. This interview could be used in a documentary about the struggles of infertility along with why adoption is an amazing alternative to abortion because it blesses a couple with children whom they could not conceive on their own.

Julie and her husband Tod have adopted three children. They struggled with infertility and chose adoption as the best alternative. Their first child was adopted from birth and they made the adoption open so that their oldest, Nathan, can still know his birth mother along with her family and children. Their second child, Amber, was in foster care until the age of two when they adopted her. She does not know her biological mother or father, but knows that she is adopted and why. Tod and Julie then had two foster children who were siblings. They were transferred to another foster home after living with Julie’s family. Shortly after the two foster children moved to a different family, Julie received a call that there was an infant who was in need of a foster home. At the age of 18 months, their third child, Lily, came into their family. They had no idea if she would be part of the family forever, but loved her as if she was their own. They later adopted Lily and feel that their family is complete. Since having Lily as a foster child, they have not fostered any other children. I admire them for loving these children as if they were their own flesh and blood. They also openly raised their children to know about adoption and that they are not biologically related, but are still loved by many and treated as if they were biological. This family has shown me that anyone can be loved as family even if you are not blood relatives.

  1.  How long did you wait to find out that you were going to be blessed with your first child?
  2. Did your family grow stronger together after learning about infertility?
  3. Would you foster more children when yours grow up more?
  4. Would you have adopted teenagers or older children if you were given the opportunity?
  5.  How much of a surprise was it when you found out you were chosen to be the adoptive parents for your first child?
  6. What was your reaction whenever you would get a call about another foster child?
  7. Have you ever thought about adopting another child?
  8. What are your views on abortion? Why?
  9. Do you think you would feel any differently about adoption and abortion if you were able to have your own biological children?
  10. Do you think adoption is ignored and seen as something negative?

Music Video Location Photos - (There's a) Wasp in (My Welly) by Nutmeg

The location in which our music video will take place is the photography studio in the Education & Arts Building at IU South Bend. We chose this location because although it is a fairly small studio, we will easily be able to make the room almost completely dark to make the silhouette effect that our video requires.

Music Video Style Book - (There's a) Wasp in (My Welly) by Nutmeg

The following photographs are of the Hungarian dance group named "Attraction." Attraction was on Britain's Got Talent and won the competition. The dancers used their bodies to create different objects and shapes that were cast onto a cloth. They varied their heights for different elements based on where they stood in comparison to where the light source was. The last photo shows how they would practice in their small studio by creating shadows on the wall.

Music Video Analysis

When I heard we had to analyze a music video, I immediately thought of "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth. This video is a narrative with a slight performance by the artists. It narrates the connection Paul Walker had with his costars while filming the Fast and Furious movie series before his tragic death while the last one (Furious 7) was still in the video production stages. The music video jumps between the artists performing the song and video clips from all of the Furious movies. The clips help to emphasize the heartbroken feeling all of the actors felt when they had to finish filming without one of their close friends by their side.

There is a consistent tone of sadness and reminiscence throughout the video because the lyrics reveal how they never got to say goodbye but will still get to see Paul in heaven. The color to the music video has a sunset in the background because it mimics the ending scene of the movie (where this song is played and was created for) when Paul's character Brian drives off into the sunlight right before sunset. The light and rhythm change a lot in this video because even though it is a very sad and reminiscent song, they want to remember him by the good times they shared together. They don't want all the viewers to only think of the fact that Paul passed in such a tragic way, but rather to focus on the good memories he helped create.

They photographed this video with some of the main cars from Fast and Furious because the movie is highly focused on cars and everyone has a color that represents their character. One of the key moments is when Wiz is photographed singing next to the white dodge viper to represent the white Toyota Supra Brian drove for the very ending part of the movie. The color white was a representation of Paul going to heaven after his passing. It was a very subtle color element to add to the visuals of the movie and this video.

In this video, the camera is rarely static. There is almost always a subtle flow to the movement of the camera. The angles never jump unless it is to have a cut from one of the movies to help narrate the music video. The camera is constantly flowing to create a more relaxed tone and to keep the viewers calm during such an emotional part of the movie.

This video follows the story of the song in an amazing way. It doesn't draw attention from the storyline of the song or the movie it was made for. It is a very touching tribute to Paul Walker and the effect his acting had on a very large audience. I am happy they made such a touching tribute to Paul to end the last movie he was a part of. Even though Paul couldn't finish the movie and his twin brother had to finish for him, the video never steers away from its original intent and the touching story it carried.

Biography

David, Holly, and I

My name is Julia Zehner. I am almost 21 and studying to major in graphic design with a minor in photography. Currently, I am in my junior year here at IU South Bend. I have been with my fiancĂ© David for almost 2 ½ years and on July 21, 2016, he asked me to marry him. He is in the Indiana National Guard and has been since we started dating. This self-portrait expresses who I am because it was taken with my dog, Holly, when we arrived at our vacation destination over the summer where David proposed. I love Holly more than anything and she knows just how to easily cheer me up no matter what my mood is.
I enjoy spending my free time coloring adult coloring books for relaxation along with tubing, and camping. Over the past two years, I have started my own photography business. A lot of my free time is spent photographing and editing photos for my business. I listen to a wide range of music, but I normally choose country or pop. I also occasionally have a mood where I am interested in rap music.

My favorite movies are Nicholas Sparks movies, Deadpool, and other comedies. If I could make any media, I would love to create reality TV shows along with comedy and action movies. I am interested in making media because it will help broaden my abilities and give me a well-rounded portfolio. One major goal for after I graduate is to have a job lined up to start right after I graduate so that I don’t have to worry about being unemployed for a long period of time after graduation.
